Penggunaan Speech Act Theory Sebagai Usaha Pembacaan Efektif Ujaran Performatif dalam Surat Yakobus

Berbagai pendekatan hermeneutis makin banyak muncul sebagai respons atas kesulitan-kesulitan yang terjadi dalam pembacaan teks, terlebih tulisan sakral. Sebuah ontologi bahasa yang ditelurkan oleh John Langshaw Austin (1911-1960) dapat memberikan perspektif baru dalam memandang sebuah ujaran. Austin menganggap bahwa ada banyak jenis bahasa yang diujarkan oleh manusia. Adalah sebuah tindakan bila seseorang mengujarkan sebuah kalimat. Austin menamainya “ujaran performatif,” yaitu memperformakan tindakan melalui ujaran. Melalui teori tindak-wicara yang dicetuskannya, Austin menjelaskan bahwa ada tiga tindakan yang secara sekaligus dieksemplifikasi dalam sebuah ujaran. Tindakan tersebut adalah “tindak lokusi;” tindakan mengujarkan kumpulan kata-kata tertentu, “tindak ilokusi,” tindakan memberikan daya pada sebuah ujaran; serta “tindak perlokusi,” tindakan mencapai dampak yang terjadi pada pendengar ujaran. Saya mengusulkan pendekatan Austin dalam menafsirkan surat Yakobus. Beberapa pertimbangan menunjukkan bahwa penafsiran surat Yakobus akan lebih kaya bila didekati dengan teori tindak-wicara. Apa yang harus dilakukan penafsir terhadap ujaran dalam surat Yakobus adalah mendistingsi ketiga jenis tindakan dari penulis Yakobus. Tujuan akhirnya adalah menebak tindak peraihan dampak yang diinginkan oleh pengujar surat terhadap pembaca pertamanya.
