Abstrak

Imajinasi merupakan keniscayaan di dalam tatanan kemanusiaan yang memiliki kekuatan untuk menyingkapkan makna, menjangkau realitas, memberi rasa, dan menggerakkan manusia. Sayangnya, imajinasi kerap dipandang sebelah mata dan tidak menemukan tempatnya di dalam kehidupan religius manusia. Hal ini dapat disaksikan, contohnya, di dalam ritual ibadah gereja Protestan. Logosentrisme dan berbagai momentum sejarah telah membawa gereja dalam tradisi yang luas ini kepada sebuah krisis imajinasi. Sungguh merupakan sebuah ironi, sebagaimana ibadah merupakan ritual menubuh yang secara sakramental mengungkapkan realitas sesungguhnya dari semesta. Oleh sebab itu, tulisan ini mencoba untuk merevitalisasi dan menyingkapkan kembali signifikansi imajinasi, khususnya bagi orang-orang percaya di dalam konteks ibadah Kristen. Melalui teori ontologi Trinitarian Supernaturalism yang diusulkan John Jefferson Davis, artikel ini akan memaparkan bagaimana imajinasi dapat menjadi kendaraan yang membawa jemaat untuk memaknai ibadah di dalam realitas ontologi yang “utuh.” Implikasi secara khusus akan didaratkan pada praktik bernyanyi kongregasional sebagai aktivitas performatif yang mendominasi ritual ibadah. Dengan elaborasi tersebut, diharapkan jemaat dapat mengalami pemaknaan yang utuh dan otentik di dalam ibadah.
